While most Summit residents enjoyed a warm Memorial Day weekend, volunteers at the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad were busy helping those in less fortunate circumstances.

On Saturday, the Summit Volunteer first Aid Squad responded to six separate emergency calls in Summit, including 2 during the Memorial Day ceremony at the Village Green and a three-car motor vehicle accident followed by a four-car pile up of onlookers. Fortunately, only one person from the auto accident needed to be taken to Overlook Hospital, but the incident required two Summit ambulances to be sent to the scene. At one point during the day all three Summit ambulances and a First Responder Vehicle were in service.

"We don't often have all of our vehicles out at the same time, but when it happens we are thankful to have the equipment and trained volunteers necessary to provide Emergency Medical Services to the town," said Kari Phair, Captain of the Summit First Aid Squad. Through the remainder of the holiday weekend, the First Aid Squad handled an additional six emergency calls, concluding with an impending child birth just after midnight on Monday.
