Summit Squad Junior Recognized As A Hero (1/21/2011)

New high tech training mannequin for Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Greg Vartan, a member of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Junior Program, shows the hero honoree award he received at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service celebration in Summit. The honoree award was based on an essay submitted by Liam Dwyer, a Summit Middle School student. In his winning essay on heroism, Liam described Mr. Vartan’s courageous efforts to revive beloved Middle School teacher, Mike Ryder, during the annual Stokes retreat last fall. Said Squad Captain, Kari Phair after the event, "Greg deserves recognition for stepping up in a very difficult situation. It says a lot about Greg, and we are lucky to have him as a member of the First Aid Squad."

Junior Membership in the Summit First Aid Squad is open to high school students age 16 and older.

The all volunteer First Aid Squad is always looking for new members to join its ranks. All needed training, uniforms and equipment is provided. For information, please call 908-277-9479, or visit their web site at www.summitems.org.
