As the primary EMS agency for the City of Summit, the First
Aid Squad responds to various types of calls for help. A medical emergency
in the patient's home is the most common type of call. Summit has a large
number of doctor's offices and clinics, and we are often called to these
facilities as well. Summit's busy streets and 2 major highways are often
the scenes of accidents that also require our services. It is not uncommon
for all 3 of our ambulances to be responding to emergencies simultaneously.
The Squad also provides many non-emergency services. We "stand
by" at various community events, such as high school football games and the
4th of July fireworks. When possible and by prior arrangement, we also provide
non-emergency transportation to Summit residents who need an ambulance to
travel to local doctor's appointments or even to out-of-state hospitals.
